General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini announced the passing of Tristan Rogers in a heartfelt statement shared on the ABC series’ official Instagram page on August 15, 2025. Just a month earlier, in July 2025, Rogers’ representative had confirmed to Fox News Digital that the actor had been diagnosed with cancer.

Sharing his grief, Valentini wrote
“The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing.”
He went on to honor Rogers’ enduring legacy, recalling how the actor captivated audiences for over five decades. Valentini expressed that Port Charles, the fictional town at the heart of the show, “will not be the same without him.”
Extending his condolences, he added:
“Tristan has captivated our fans for more than 50 years, and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio). I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”
Tristan Rogers’ Rise as a General Hospital Star
Over the course of more than four decades, Tristan Rogers became an integral part of General Hospital, appearing in over 1,400 episodes of the iconic soap opera. The Australian actor first stepped into the role of Robert Scorpio in 1980, quickly winning over audiences with his charisma and wit. Although his character was written off in 1992, fan demand was so strong that Rogers returned just three years later—first as a spirit, and eventually revived as a living character in 2006.
Beyond the main series, Rogers also reprised his role in General Hospital: Night Shift. His final appearance on the show came on November 12, 2024, when Robert Scorpio departed Port Charles with his former love, Holly Sutton.
Reflecting on his long-running role in a 2018 interview with Soap Opera Digest, Rogers explained what made Scorpio so memorable:
“Robert has always had kind of a glib approach to everything; he’s a bit of a smart-mouth. I’m working with a lot of different people… And I think the fans are going to like it.”

In 2020, Rogers received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series for his performance in Studio City.
