Tehran will premiere exclusively on Zee5 on August 14, 2025, inviting viewers to navigate its tense psychological and political landscape from the comfort of home. Drawing inspiration from the 2012 bomb blast near the Israeli Embassy in Delhi, the film explores the far-reaching diplomatic shockwaves of the real-life incident.
In the story, ACP Rajeev Kumar (John Abraham) is thrust into a high-stakes covert mission that cuts across borders, ideologies, and fractured alliances. As the mission unfolds, the line between right and wrong fades—raising the question: is Rajeev a steadfast patriot shaping India’s destiny from the shadows, or a rogue operative following his own code?

What the Tehran Team Says About the Film
Producer Dinesh Vijan shared, “Tehran is about what lies beyond the headlines—the people. It’s a story of conscience, showing how a single life can shift the course of international relations. In India, we rarely attempt this genre, but at Maddock Films, we’ve always pursued stories with heart and soul. Tehran is one such story, and we’re confident it will resonate worldwide.”
Director Arun Gopalan described the film as, “A mirror to a fractured world—about shifting loyalties, blurred identities, and the human cost hidden in global politics. We approached it with honesty because the truth it draws from is anything but fiction. Every choice, silence, and betrayal in this story matters. Thanks to John, Manushi, and the cast for entering this world with courage and authenticity. More than a spy thriller, Tehran is a tense, adrenaline-fueled ride that makes you question: whose truth do you believe?”
Leading man John Abraham called it, “A truly global film—rooted in real events yet resonating beyond borders. ACP Rajeev Kumar isn’t a conventional patriot; he’s torn between duty and conscience, and that moral conflict makes the story gripping. This isn’t good versus evil—it’s about navigating the grey. I’m proud to be part of a project that explores such complexities.”
Actor Neeru Bajwa said, “Tehran is unlike anything I’ve done before—emotionally charged and politically complex. My character stands her ground and chooses integrity, even when everything is falling apart. She’s morally grounded, unafraid, and a proud representation of strength in a turbulent world. This is a bold, timely, and unapologetically real film that not only entertains but also provokes thought.

Sheilaja – A Complex Force in Tehran
In Tehran, Neeru Bajwa steps into the role of Sheilaja—a strong, principled woman who refuses to compromise her beliefs, even when confronted with intense adversity. Emotionally driven yet deeply layered, Sheilaja embodies the film’s central clash between global political turmoil and personal conviction, as noted by Hindustan Times. The role marks a striking departure from Bajwa’s familiar work in Punjabi cinema, allowing her to explore a more intricate and high-stakes character than ever before.

ACP Rajiv Kumar – The Man in the Middle
John Abraham takes on the lead role of ACP Rajiv Kumar, an officer torn between unwavering duty and a restless conscience. Is he a steadfast patriot determined to unravel a dangerous conspiracy, or a rogue operative charting his own course? Inspired by true events, Tehran thrusts Rajiv into the treacherous world of international espionage, where the high-stakes geopolitical tension between Iran and Israel forces him to navigate shifting loyalties, hidden agendas, and moral grey zones.
Why Tehran Chose an OTT Release
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, John Abraham revealed the reason behind Tehran’s direct-to-OTT launch. The film’s sensitive geopolitical backdrop—centered on tensions between Iran and Israel—made many cinema chains hesitant to screen it.
“Because of the conflict and the controversies happening around, even internationally, theaters were a little wary of picking up a film that had Iran and Israel in it,” Abraham explained. “We had to make a very informed decision on this.”
