Satish Shah’s career in cinema began in 1978 with “Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan”, directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza. However, it was his role as the lovable yet corrupt Municipal Commissioner D’Mello in the 1983 cult classic “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro” that cemented his place in the hearts of audiences.

Over the years, Shah became synonymous with versatility, appearing in more than 250 films across genres. His notable works include “Hum Saath Saath Hain” (1999), “Kal Ho Naa Ho” (2003), “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” (2004), and “Om Shanti Om” (2007).

Known for his impeccable comic timing, Shah often played supporting roles that left lasting impressions on audiences. His ability to switch seamlessly between comedy and emotion made him one of Bollywood’s most reliable character actors.

Television Fame: The Iconic Indravadhan Sarabhai

While Satish Shah enjoyed an illustrious film career, his contribution to Indian television was equally iconic. He rose to national fame in the 1984 sitcom “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi”, where he played a different character in every episode across its 55-episode run — a performance that showcased his incredible range as an actor.

A decade later, he charmed audiences again with “Filmy Chakkar” (1995) before achieving cult status as Indravadhan Sarabhai in the beloved sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai” (2004). His portrayal of the witty, sarcastic, and endearing patriarch remains one of the most loved performances in Indian TV history.

Satish Shah’s last film appearance was in Sajid Khan’s “Humshakals” (2014), which featured Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta, and Bipasha Basu.

Even after stepping away from the limelight, Shah remained a respected figure in the industry, known for his humility, professionalism, and ability to make people laugh. His passing marks the end of an era in Indian entertainment.

The industry mourns the loss of a true legend whose contribution to cinema and television will forever be cherished.
