Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara is on the brink of achieving a significant box office milestone, showing no signs of slowing down even after three weeks in theatres. The film, which stars debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has managed to hold strong in the face of new releases and waning weekend momentum. As of now, Saiyaara is set to enter the coveted ₹300 crore club at the domestic box office, a major feat for a film led by newcomers.
Despite facing stiff competition from two fresh releases—Shazia Iqbal’s romantic drama Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, and Vijay Kumar Arora’s comedy Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur—Saiyaara continues its impressive run. While its box office earnings did slip into single digits during the third weekend, it still performed well enough to maintain momentum.
On its 17th day in theatres, which fell on a Sunday, Saiyaara collected an estimated ₹8 crore. While this marks a substantial decline compared to the ₹30 crore it earned on its second Sunday, the trend still shows an upward movement through the weekend. The film earned ₹4.5 crore on Friday, saw a slight increase to ₹6.75 crore on Saturday, and then spiked again on Sunday. With its total domestic collection now standing at ₹299.75 crore, the film is expected to cross ₹300 crore by the end of today.
With this milestone in sight, Saiyaara is poised to become one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the romantic drama is set to surpass the lifetime domestic earnings of several major blockbusters. These include Yash Raj Films’ own Sultan (2016), directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma, which earned ₹300.45 crore, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 period drama Padmaavat, which brought in ₹302.15 crore domestically and featured Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor.
Currently ranked as the 12th highest-grossing Hindi film ever in India, Saiyaara still has some distance to cover before breaking into the top tier. The films ahead of it include:
-
Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) – ₹320.34 crore
-
Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) – ₹339.16 crore
-
PK (2014) – ₹340.8 crore
-
Sanju (2018) – ₹342.57 crore
-
Dangal (2016) – ₹387.38 crore
-
Gadar 2 (2023) – ₹525.7 crore
-
Pathaan (2023) – ₹543.09 crore
-
Animal (2023) – ₹553.87 crore
-
Stree 2 (2024) – ₹597.99 crore
-
Chhaava (2025) – ₹601.57 crore
-
Jawan (2023) – ₹640.25 crore
Record-Breaking Opening Day for a Romantic Film Saiyaara
Notably, Saiyaara now stands as the highest-grossing Indian film headlined by debut actors. The film marked the big-screen debut of Ahaan Panday—cousin of actress Ananya Panday—and Big Girls Don’t Cry star Aneet Padda. Their fresh pairing has been warmly received by audiences, thanks in part to Mohit Suri’s expertise in crafting emotionally charged romantic dramas with mass appeal.
Produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara also holds significance as the debut production venture of YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani. With this success, YRF continues to expand its legacy of backing high-grossing entertainers. The studio already boasts two other entries on the list of top earners—Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan, both of which are part of the studio’s growing action-spy universe.

The success of Saiyaara further establishes Mohit Suri as a filmmaker with a deep understanding of India’s love for emotionally intense romances. His previous hits like Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain had already proven his knack for combining music, love, and heartbreak in a way that resonates deeply with audiences across age groups. With Saiyaara, he appears to have replicated that formula to even greater box office effect.
As the film gears up to surpass the ₹300 crore mark, it’s clear that Saiyaara has struck a chord with the audience, despite not featuring any established stars. Whether it can continue its climb and take on giants like Dangal, Pathaan, or Jawan remains to be seen, but the film’s momentum and widespread appeal suggest that its journey is far from over.
