Three new Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari rivals are set to hit the Indian market within two years, all priced competitively below ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Seven-seater SUV choices under ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom) are currently limited in India. However, Renault, Nissan, and Hyundai are working on new three-row models to expand this segment. The first of these SUVs is expected to debut within a year. Here’s everything we know so far:
1. Renault Boreal

Renault’s upcoming three-row SUV for India is likely to be the Boreal, which made its global debut in July. The model is heavily inspired by Dacia’s Bigster and shares its platform with the India-bound third-generation Duster from the two European brands. Measuring 4,556 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, the Boreal offers a 2,702 mm wheelbase and an impressive 213 mm of ground clearance.
The Renault Boreal boasts a bold yet refined exterior, representing one of the most sophisticated designs ever created by Renault for emerging markets. Inside, it continues this premium theme with a class-leading cabin. The SUV comes equipped with features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a massage function for the driver’s seat, dual 10-inch displays, a 48-color ambient lighting setup, and 24 advanced driver assistance systems.
Renault is expected to launch the Boreal in India with a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a hybrid powertrain built around a larger engine. The automaker started testing the three-row SUV in India in mid-2025, with its official launch likely to take place in the fourth quarter of 2026.
2. Nissan 3-Row SUV

Nissan is set to launch its own version of Renault’s upcoming three-row SUV in the first quarter of 2027. Just as the company gave the Tekton a distinct identity to differentiate it from Renault’s Duster, this new seven-seater is also expected to feature a unique design. Apart from the core structure, nearly every element — including the headlights, grille, bumpers, wheels, and trim details — is likely to be styled differently to give it a bold and individual look.
Inside, elements such as the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, door panels, and seats are expected to feature a unique design, giving the cabin its own identity. However, the overall feature list and key specifications are likely to remain similar to those of the Renault model.

3. Hyundai 3-Row SUV

Hyundai is currently developing a new three-row SUV, codenamed ‘Ni1i,’ slated for launch in 2027. Unlike the Alcazar, which is an extended version of the Creta, the Ni1i is being designed as a dedicated three-row SUV from the ground up. Measuring around 4.7 metres in length—similar to the Mahindra XUV700—this seven-seater will also be among the eight Hyundai models set to feature a hybrid powertrain by March 2030.
