The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued red alerts for several districts in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy rainfall. In Jammu and Kashmir, the alert is largely confined to the Jammu region, covering the districts of Reasi, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda. As of Tuesday morning, Kishtwar district has also been placed under a red alert.

Roads closed in Jammu and Kashmir
Heavy rains have severely disrupted travel across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, affecting roads, train services, and flights. The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway is shut due to multiple landslides, mudslides, and falling rocks at Marog, Digdol, Battery Chashma, and Kela Morh in Ramban district. In Kishtwar, part of the Padder road near Traith Nallah has been washed away, while landslides also forced the closure of the Ramnagar–Udhampur road in Udhampur and the Jangalwar–Thathri road in Doda.
Train services have been disrupted on the down line over BR-232 between Pathankot Cantt (PTKC) and Kandrori (KNDI), which has been temporarily suspended. The up line remains operational, with trains currently being run on a single track or diverted through the Pathankot–Amritsar (PTK–ASR) route.
Red and Orange Alerts Issued in Himachal, Punjab, and Rajasthan
Himachal Pradesh remains on red alert for August 26, with heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms expected in Chamba, Mandi, and Kangra districts. The severe weather raises the risk of flash floods and landslides, and residents have been urged to remain cautious. In Punjab, red alerts have been issued for Ludhiana, Sangrur, Barnala, and Mansa, where intense rainfall and thunderstorms may disrupt daily life and damage infrastructure.
Meanwhile in Rajasthan, the monsoon continues to bring widespread heavy rain. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has placed Rajsamand, Sirohi, and Udaipur districts under an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall.
