PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Faces Backlash on Social Media Over Asia Cup Final Trophy Act,

The Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai turned into more than just a cricketing clash between India and Pakistan. While India secured a commanding victory over their arch-rivals, the post-match presentation and the actions of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have sparked major controversy. From being booed on stage to walking away with the trophy, Naqvi’s behavior has now drawn sharp criticism and social media ridicule.

India Defeats Pakistan in Asia Cup Final

On the field, India maintained their dominance over Pakistan in major tournaments, securing the Asia Cup title with a five-wicket win in the final. Indian players delivered strong performances, with Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma standing out during the tournament. The emphatic victory added to India’s long list of cricketing triumphs against Pakistan, once again proving their superiority on the biggest stage.

The win also carried symbolic weight, reminding fans of India’s repeated successes against Pakistan, both in cricket and beyond.

Trophy Presentation Delayed Amid Drama

After the match, the post-match presentation ceremony saw unusual delays of nearly 90 minutes. When the ceremony finally began, the atmosphere was tense. Indian fans at the stadium loudly booed Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistan players as they came on stage.

While Indian cricketers accepted their individual awards from dignitaries, they refused to acknowledge Naqvi. Salman, representing Pakistan, accepted the runners-up cheque directly from the PCB chairman, but the Indian team avoided any direct interaction with him.

To add fuel to the fire, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Naqvi did not applaud Indian players when they came forward to collect their accolades, further angering the crowd.

India Refuses to Take Trophy from Naqvi

The biggest controversy erupted when it was revealed that the Indian team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi. Simon Doull, the host broadcaster’s presenter, confirmed during the live telecast that the Indian side would not be collecting their trophy that night.

Later, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that the decision was deliberate. India did not want to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who not only heads the PCB but also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister.

Embarrassingly, Naqvi then walked off the stage with his entourage, carrying the official Asia Cup trophy and medals. Meanwhile, the victorious Indian players turned the awkward moment into lighthearted fun, posing with an “imaginary trophy” for photographs, as fireworks lit up the Dubai sky.

Naqvi’s Social Media Outburst

The backlash did not end with the presentation. Mohsin Naqvi took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to respond to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message after the victory. In his post, Naqvi accused India of dragging war into sport and claimed that the spirit of the game had been disgraced.

“If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan’s hands. No cricket match can rewrite that truth,” he wrote.

However, his remarks quickly backfired. Critics reminded Naqvi of Pakistan’s repeated military losses, from the 1971 war where Lt. Gen. A.A.K. Niazi signed the Instrument of Surrender, to the Kargil conflict, where former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif admitted Pakistan’s fault in violating the Lahore Declaration. Others cited Operation Sindoor, when Indian forces decimated terror sites and destroyed key Pakistani air bases.

Social Media and Fan Reactions

Naqvi’s post-match conduct and fiery comments drew strong criticism both in India and internationally. Fans accused him of politicizing cricket and humiliating himself on the world stage. The fact that his X account is already withheld in India only fueled the mockery, as Indian users spread memes and comments highlighting the irony of his remarks.

The viral moment of Indian players posing with an imaginary trophy has since become a symbol of the team’s defiance and confidence, further embarrassing the PCB chief.

Cricket and Politics Collide Again

The Asia Cup 2025 final was expected to be remembered for India’s victory, but the off-field drama involving Mohsin Naqvi has stolen much of the spotlight. By walking away with the trophy and lashing out online, Naqvi turned what could have been a routine ceremony into a diplomatic and sporting flashpoint.

While India celebrated another Asia Cup triumph, Pakistan’s cricket administration found itself at the center of controversy yet again. Naqvi’s attempt to project strength ended up exposing him to ridicule, reminding fans how cricket between India and Pakistan often extends far beyond the boundary ropes.

The Asia Cup final will go down in history not only for India’s emphatic win but also for the spectacle that followed. Mohsin Naqvi’s refusal to handle the situation with grace has drawn criticism from fans, officials, and cricket watchers alike. Instead of celebrating the spirit of the game, the PCB chief’s actions highlighted how politics and personal pride can overshadow sporting achievements.

As India moves forward with another trophy in its cabinet, Pakistan’s cricket leadership is left facing uncomfortable questions—both on and off the field.
