If you’ve been active on social media lately, you’ve likely come across the heated controversy involving Khushboo Patani and two well-known spiritual figures—Aniruddhacharya and Premanandji Maharaj. The issue, which has been spiraling across platforms, has now prompted a strong response from Khushboo Patani, who is not only a retired Indian Army Major but also the elder sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani.

Khushboo has taken a firm stand against what she calls a “deliberate misinformation campaign” aimed at defaming her character and putting her at risk. In a detailed video statement, she clarified her position, addressed the online abuse she’s been receiving, and issued a stern legal warning to those involved in spreading false claims.

The Origin of the Controversy

The issue began when a video clip of Khushboo Patani went viral, in which she appeared to criticize a spiritual leader. However, Khushboo has now made it clear that her comments were directed specifically at Aniruddhacharya, and not Premanandji Maharaj, as some online platforms claimed.

In her video, she clarified that the controversial clip had been “edited and taken out of context.” According to her, the original video was a reaction to remarks made by Aniruddhacharya regarding women in live-in relationships. The spiritual leader had commented on women “who go from one person to another,” which Khushboo described as patriarchal, regressive, and insulting to women in modern society.

The Premanandji Confusion

The situation worsened when a separate video featuring spiritual leader Premanandji Maharaj discussing a similar topic surfaced online. This video was misrepresented in conjunction with Khushboo’s clip, creating the false impression that she had spoken against Premanandji as well.

This misrepresentation triggered a storm of trolling and harassment. Devotees of both Aniruddhacharya and Premanandji began targeting Khushboo with abusive, misogynistic messages, accusing her of disrespecting revered spiritual leaders.

Khushboo Hits Back: “I Will Not Spare Them”

Taking to social media, Khushboo posted a video and a strongly worded message slamming those spreading misinformation. She captioned the post, “Fake News Against Me! Deliberate effort to defame me!” and demanded that people stop believing unauthenticated and manipulated content.

Khushboo explained that she had never mentioned Premanandji in her comments and had deep respect for all spiritual figures who promote progressive values. She added that the entire controversy had caused undue mental stress and placed her at serious personal risk due to the threats and hate messages she received.

Legal Action Initiated

Not one to back down, Khushboo has announced legal proceedings against those responsible for defaming her. In her post, she specifically called out the Instagram handle @yourrspiritualgirl, which she alleges posted manipulated content and false allegations.

In her public message, she wrote:

“@yourrspiritualgirl this channel has put serious fake news against me which has nothing to do with me and put me under unnecessary trolling and risk. We will be filing defamation under IPC 499 and 500, forgery and manipulation under IPC 465 and 469, spreading fake news or misleading content under IPC 505(1)(b), hurting modesty of a woman, cybercrime, and online harassment under IT ACT 66, 66D, 67 against you.”

The list of IPC sections and IT Act provisions she cited indicate that she is pursuing serious legal charges, including criminal defamation, cyber harassment, and the spreading of misinformation.

The Bigger Message

Beyond the personal attacks, Khushboo’s statement also touches on broader issues of gender-based trolling, misogyny, and the spread of fake news on social media. Her experience highlights how easily misinformation can spiral out of control in the digital age—and how it often targets women disproportionately.

Khushboo urged her followers and the public to be cautious before sharing or believing unverified content online. “It’s time we hold people accountable,” she said, emphasizing that freedom of speech does not extend to character assassination or digital harassment.

From Army Major to Digital Warrior

Khushboo Patani has served in the Indian Army and now works as a health and wellness advocate. Known for her discipline and integrity, she has spoken in the past on issues like fitness, patriotism, and women’s empowerment. Her current battle against online defamation is an extension of her commitment to standing up for what’s right, even when the odds are stacked.

As this situation continues to unfold, Khushboo’s proactive and legally grounded response may set a precedent for how public figures—especially women—can confront and combat online abuse and misinformation  I will not spare.
