A dramatic and deadly shooting unfolded at Paras Hospital in Patna, Gangs of Bihar, on Thursday morning, when a prisoner out on parole was gunned down by unidentified assailants. The victim, identified as Chandan Mishra, a known criminal from Buxar district, had been admitted to the private hospital for medical treatment. According to police officials, the attackers entered the hospital premises armed and shot Mishra multiple times inside the building, sending shockwaves across the facility.

Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kartikeya Kumar, arrived promptly to take stock of the situation and oversee the initial stages of the investigation. Speaking to the media, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Central Range (Patna), Jitendra Rana, provided further details. “Chandan Mishra, a criminal from Buxar, was admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. Members of a rival gang entered the hospital and opened fire on him. He was shot multiple times,” Rana said. He also confirmed that the victim was initially undergoing treatment following the attack, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Rana added that investigators were working closely with the Buxar Police to identify the assailants. In a startling revelation, he did not rule out the possibility of involvement from the prisoner’s security detail. “It cannot be ruled out that the police security guards may have had a role in the incident. We are investigating that angle thoroughly,” he stated.

He was shot by unidentified assailants and succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital. Reacting strongly to the recent spate of killings,including the murder of a BJP leader in Patna, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a fierce attack on the ruling NDA government. Taking to social media on Monday, Yadav questioned the accountability of the state leadership and accused them of ignoring the ground reality.

“A BJP leader has now been shot dead in Patna! What more is left to say—and who is even listening? Is there anyone in the NDA government willing to face the truth or accept responsibility for these failures?” Yadav wrote, expressing outrage and frustration over the ongoing violence and lack of effective governance.

The recent surge in shootings, especially in and around the state capital, has intensified political tensions, with opposition leaders holding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s administration directly responsible for the apparent collapse of law and order. The string of killings by Gangs of Bihar, now involving civilians, professionals, and political figures—has raised alarm among citizens and leaders alike ahead of the upcoming state elections.
