A puzzling case has emerged from Madhya Pradesh, where a young woman preparing for the civil judge examination suddenly vanished during a train journey. The incident has left her family, fellow passengers, and the police baffled, as no concrete leads have yet surfaced about her whereabouts.
The missing woman has been identified as 28-year-old Archana Tiwari, a resident of Indore. Archana was traveling to her hometown of Katni on the morning of August 7 when she disappeared without a trace from the Indore–Bilaspur Narmada Express.
The Journey That Took a Mysterious Turn(Civil Judge Aspirant)
Archana had boarded the B-3 coach of the train from Indore in the morning, intending to reach Katni later that day. According to her family, she had been living in Indore to prepare for the competitive judicial services examination and was returning home for a short visit.
Her family was expecting her to alight at Katni railway station, but when the train arrived, she was nowhere to be found. Initially, they thought she might have shifted to another coach or missed her belongings while disembarking, but when she didn’t show up even after several minutes, panic set in.
The First Signs of Trouble
When Archana did not get off the train at Katni, her family quickly contacted relatives in Umaria, the next station on the train’s route, asking them to check on her.
The relatives reached Umaria station and boarded the B-3 coach where Archana was supposed to be seated. What they found deepened the mystery — her bag was still in the coach, but there was no sign of Archana herself.
Alarmed, her relatives informed her immediate family, who in turn contacted the Katni Railway Police to report her missing.
Last Known Communication
The family told police that their last conversation with Archana took place around 10:15 am that day. At the time, Archana had informed them that her train was nearing Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati station (formerly Habibganj station).
Shortly after that call, her phone was found to be switched off. This raised concerns that something may have happened to her in or near Bhopal.

Initial Investigation and CCTV Clues
Katni Railway Police Sub-Inspector Anil Maravi confirmed that a missing person’s report has been filed. Preliminary investigation revealed that Archana was indeed spotted at Rani Kamlapati railway station in Bhopal, based on CCTV footage.
However, what happened after she left Bhopal remains unclear. According to co-passengers in the B-3 coach, Archana was not seen on the train after it departed from Bhopal.
This has led investigators to believe that she might have gotten off the train voluntarily or involuntarily at Bhopal, though the reasons remain unknown.
The disappearance has given rise to several theories, but none have been confirmed:
Voluntary Exit – Some suspect that Archana may have chosen to leave the train at Bhopal for personal reasons without informing her family.
Accidental Situation – It is also possible that she accidentally got left behind at the station while buying something or moving about the platform.
Foul Play – Given the circumstances, police are not ruling out the possibility of foul play, including abduction or coercion.
Police Efforts in the Search
The railway police have launched a multi-pronged investigation. Their primary focus is on:
Examining CCTV footage from all stations where the train stopped after Indore, particularly Bhopal.
Tracing her mobile phone location to determine her movements after the last call.
Interviewing co-passengers and train staff to gather any observations that might help.
Coordinating with local police at Bhopal, Katni, and Umaria for cross-checking any sightings or reports.
As of now, however, no concrete leads have emerged.
Family in Distress
For Archana’s family, the past few days have been agonizing. Her parents and relatives are desperately appealing for information from anyone who might have seen her. They are also urging railway authorities to intensify their search.
“She is a well-educated, disciplined girl who had no reason to run away. Something must have happened during her journey,” a family member said, expressing concern over the lack of immediate clues.
Why the Case Stands Out
While cases of missing passengers are not unheard of, this one stands out because Archana was an educated, career-focused woman traveling in a reserved coach during the day — a situation where disappearances are rare.
Moreover, the fact that her belongings were left behind indicates she may not have planned to leave suddenly. The abrupt cutoff in communication after Bhopal adds another layer of mystery.

The Broader Safety Question
This incident also highlights the ongoing concerns about passenger safety on Indian trains, particularly for women traveling alone. While the Railways has strengthened CCTV coverage, deployed security staff, and introduced helplines, isolated incidents like this show that vulnerabilities still exist.
Passenger safety experts point out that vigilance from co-passengers and prompt reporting of suspicious activities are essential to prevent such cases.
As the investigation progresses, both the police and Archana’s family are hoping for a breakthrough. The authorities are calling on the public to report any possible sightings or information to the nearest police station.
For now, the mystery of how and why a civil judge aspirant vanished during a routine train journey remains unsolved, leaving her loved ones clinging to hope and the investigators racing against time.
