On October 6, police received a fire alert from Gandhi Vihar in Timarpur. When firefighters reached the spot, they found a fourth-floor flat engulfed in flames. After the fire was brought under control, a charred body was recovered. The deceased was identified as Ram Kesh Meena, a 32-year-old civil services aspirant preparing for the UPSC examination.
At first, it seemed like an accidental fire, but Meena’s family raised doubts. They urged the police to investigate further. Soon, CCTV footage from the building revealed something strange — two people with covered faces entering the building the night before the fire. Later, the same footage showed a man and a woman leaving the building, right before the fire broke out.
The woman was identified as Amrita Chauhan, Meena’s live-in partner. Her phone location confirmed she was near the flat during the time of the incident. When she switched off her phone soon after, police began to suspect her involvement.
The Investigation Unfolds

The police registered a murder case and began tracing Amrita’s movements. After several raids, she was arrested on October 18. During questioning, Amrita confessed to being involved and revealed the names of her co-conspirators — her ex-boyfriend, Sumit Kashyap, and their mutual friend, Sandeep Kumar.
Sumit was arrested on October 21, followed by Sandeep on October 23. What came to light next was a story of revenge, betrayal, and a brutal plan executed with cold precision.
The Motive: Private Videos and Betrayal
Amrita told police that she met Ram Kesh in May 2024, and the two soon began living together in his Gandhi Vihar flat. During their relationship, Ram Kesh allegedly recorded private videos of her and stored them on a hard disk without her consent. When Amrita discovered this, she asked him to delete them, but he ignored her requests.
Feeling humiliated and angry, Amrita shared the incident with her ex-boyfriend Sumit. Furious over her distress, the two decided to kill Ram Kesh and make it look like a fire accident.
The Murder Plan

Sumit, who worked in LPG cylinder distribution, knew how long it would take for a gas cylinder to explode. Amrita, a forensic science student with a keen interest in crime shows, used her knowledge to help plan the crime.
They also brought in Sandeep Kumar, a 29-year-old mutual friend, to assist them. On the night of October 5, Sumit and Sandeep entered the flat while Amrita kept watch.
According to police, the two men beat and strangled Ram Kesh to death. To destroy the evidence, they poured oil, ghee, and wine on his body to help the fire spread faster. Sumit then placed the LPG cylinder near Ram Kesh’s head, opened the knob, and allowed gas to fill the room.

An hour later, the gas cylinder exploded, leaving behind a completely charred body.
The Clues That Caught the Killers

Despite their careful planning, the trio overlooked one key detail — the CCTV cameras. The footage clearly showed their movements before and after the fire, leading police straight to them.
During the investigation, police recovered the hard disk containing Amrita’s private videos and other stolen items. They also seized two mobile phones used in planning the murder.
According to investigators, all three accused have now been arrested and charged with murder, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
The case has shocked Delhi and highlighted how personal conflicts and digital privacy violations can spiral into deadly violence. What began as a relationship built on trust ended in betrayal, revenge, and tragedy — all captured by a few silent CCTV cameras.
