“Wheat cultivated using chemical fertilisers is often linked to cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid problems. Earlier, we weren’t fully aware of these health risks. Consuming food grown without chemical fertilisers could potentially eliminate the need for medication,” Shah said during the Sahkar Samvaad in Ahmedabad.

Shah also highlighted the environmental advantages of natural farming, stating, “During heavy rains, water typically runs off the fields. But with organic farming, not a single drop is lost—it seeps into the soil. This happens because natural farming encourages the formation of catchways, which have been destroyed by the excessive use of chemical fertilisers.”

“Earthworms are natural fertiliser producers, but synthetic fertilisers have wiped them out,” Shah said. “These creatures are nature’s own factories for urea, DAP (Diammonium Phosphate), and MPK (Monopotassium Phosphate).”
