Music composer and playback singer Amaal Mallik, known for chart-topping Bollywood hits, has stepped into an unexpected territory this year — the Salman Khan-hosted reality show Bigg Boss 19. His entry has sparked widespread curiosity, with fans and viewers wondering what prompted a successful musician to take on one of India’s most unpredictable television journeys.

Ahead of his appearance on the premiere episode, Amaal spoke candidly about his reasons for joining the show. In a heartfelt statement, he admitted that despite nearly a decade in the Indian music industry, he still struggles with something many would take for granted — being recognized for who he truly is.
“People Don’t Recognise Me by Face”
Amaal revealed that while his music has received immense love and appreciation, his face has never become strongly associated with his work. As a result, people often mistake him for others, including his brother Armaan Malik and Bollywood actors like Arjun Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Ranveer Singh.
“It came from the space that in the last 10 years, I have felt people often misunderstand me. I have chosen the path of truth, and the reality I kept upfront has only led me to lose work. But it doesn’t bother me anymore. Whenever I was asked to leave a film, or when I myself backed out, or when producers dropped me, I simply took a holiday. I never took it to heart,” he said.
He added that his participation in Bigg Boss 19 is largely about establishing a personal identity. “People have listened to my music and given me love, but they do not associate a face with it. It’s important for them to know who Amaal Mallik is. This is not Armaan Malik. When I wear a beanie, people think it’s Aditya Roy Kapur, sometimes Arjun Kapoor. If I lose weight, they call me Vicky Kaushal. And if I grow a beard, they say it’s Ranveer Singh. I want to end this confusion,” he explained.
Music, Struggles, and the Search for Clarity
Despite the constant comparisons, Amaal has maintained a positive attitude. He emphasized that he doesn’t let rejection or professional setbacks affect his outlook on life. His entry into the reality show, however, comes with the hope of gaining visibility not just as a composer but as an individual with his own personality, choices, and story.

“I want people to know my habits, my personality, and even my vibe. For too long, my music has spoken for me. Now, I want my face and my truth to be recognized too,” he said.
During the premiere episode, Amaal also spoke to Salman Khan about his struggles with mental health. He admitted that at one point, success may have swayed him in directions that led to isolation and friction within his personal life. In fact, he had once made headlines with a social media post announcing he had cut ties with his family. While he didn’t shy away from acknowledging it, he expressed hope that his journey on Bigg Boss 19 would bring him clarity and healing.
Bigg Boss 19: A Fresh Platform
For Amaal Mallik, Bigg Boss 19 is not just another reality show but a platform to step out of the shadow of comparisons and rebuild his image. His honesty about his struggles has already drawn empathy from fans, many of whom admire his courage to speak openly about issues that celebrities often avoid.

Reality television has, in the past, given many public figures a chance to show their authentic selves beyond the glamour of the entertainment industry. For Amaal, this is an opportunity to be seen as more than “just a voice behind the music.”
Star-Studded Line-Up
Alongside Amaal Mallik, the season features a mix of television actors, social media influencers, and entertainers. Contestants include Gaurav Khanna, Baseer Ali, Ashnoor Kaur, Awez Darbar, Nagma Mirajkar, Abhishek Bajaj, Tanya Mittal, Nehal Chudasama, Pranit More, Kunickaa Sadanand, Farrhana Bhatt, Zeeshan Quadri, Natalia Janoszek, Neelam Giri, and Mridul Tiwari.
With such a diverse mix of personalities, Bigg Boss 19 promises plenty of drama, emotional revelations, and unexpected friendships. But Amaal’s presence stands out, given his established music career and his candid confession about personal battles.
A Journey of Self-Discovery
Ultimately, Amaal Mallik’s decision to enter the Bigg Boss house stems from his need for identity, recognition, and self-discovery. While his career boasts popular songs that millions hum, the man behind the music has often been overshadowed by comparisons.

Through his time in the house, he hopes to finally let people see the real him — his likes, dislikes, vulnerabilities, and strengths. Whether the journey will give him the recognition he seeks remains to be seen, but his courage to admit his struggles publicly has already struck a chord with many.
As Bigg Boss 19 unfolds, Amaal Mallik’s presence is expected to bring not just music but also moments of introspection, honesty, and perhaps the breakthrough identity he has been yearning for.
