Rashmika Mandanna Supports Deepika Padukone’s Stand on 8-Hour Workdays: “Overworking Isn’t Sustainable”

The discussion around working hours in the Indian film industry has gained new momentum after Deepika Padukone reportedly exited two major projects — Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD — due to her insistence on structured eight-hour work shifts. While opinions have been divided, actor Rashmika Mandanna has now shared her honest thoughts on the issue, admitting that her habit of overworking is not something to be proud of.

Rashmika’s Honest Confession on Overworking

During a recent interview with Gulte, Rashmika opened up about her demanding work schedule and confessed that constantly pushing herself beyond limits has taken a toll on her well-being. The actress revealed that she often works long hours without rest, something she now realizes is “not sustainable.”

“I overwork, and I am telling you it’s highly not suggestible. It’s not sustainable, don’t do it,” she said. “Do what’s comfortable for you, do what is right for you, get those 8 hours, get those 9–10 hours also, because trust me, that’s going to save you later.”

Rashmika went on to say that she has experienced both extremes — working with long, unstructured schedules and observing those who stick to regulated hours — and she believes the latter approach is healthier. “I’ve seen a lot of these conversations recently about work hours. I’ve done both, and I’m telling you, overworking is not worth it,” she added.

Producer’s Praise and Rashmika’s Response

Interestingly, producer Sreenivasa Kumar had recently praised Rashmika Mandanna during an event for her upcoming film The Girlfriend. He called her “the only actor who doesn’t insist on fixed work hours.” While the remark was intended as a compliment, Rashmika humbly admitted that her flexibility often comes at a personal cost.

The actress said she tends to overcommit because she finds it hard to say no to her team. “My habit of pushing myself comes from not being able to say no,” she explained. “Sometimes I take on more projects and responsibilities than I can handle.”

“Actors Deserve a Work-Life Balance Too”

Echoing Deepika Padukone’s recent call for balanced work schedules, Rashmika emphasized the need for actors to have a routine similar to regular office hours. “If I could choose for myself, I would say, please don’t make us actors do that,” she said. “Like offices have 9-to-5 shifts, let us have that too.”

The actress also highlighted that actors, just like anyone else, deserve time to rest, spend with family, and focus on their personal health. “There’s still a family life I want to focus on, there’s still my sleep that I want to get in, and I still want to work out so that later on I’m not regretting it,” Rashmika said.

She added that while she is currently overwhelmed by her busy schedule, she hopes to make better choices in the future. “Right now, I don’t have a say because I’m taking on too much. But I’m learning that rest and balance are just as important as hard work,” she noted.
