The annual Pushkar Cattle Fair in Rajasthan has once again drawn huge crowds, showcasing India’s rich livestock heritage and some of the country’s most valuable animals. This year’s fair has turned into a spectacle of wealth and tradition, with a Rs 15-crore horse and a Rs 23-crore buffalo becoming the biggest attractions. Traders, tourists, and animal enthusiasts from across India and abroad have gathered to witness these prized animals at the vibrant event.

Shahbaz – 15-Crore Horse (Marwari Horse)

Among the many majestic animals at the fair, Shahbaz, a stunning two-and-a-half-year-old Marwari horse from Chandigarh, has captured everyone’s attention. Owned by Gary Gill, Shahbaz is valued at a whopping Rs 15 crore.

Speaking to ANI, Gill shared, “Shahbaz has won several shows and comes from a prestigious lineage. His covering fee is Rs 2 lakh, and the asking price is Rs 15 crore. So far, we’ve received offers of up to Rs 9 crore.”

The horse’s breeding cost alone stands at Rs 2 lakh, and his graceful appearance and strong build make him one of the fair’s most admired animals. Visitors have been queuing up to take photos and videos of Shahbaz, who represents the pride of India’s Marwari breed — known for its loyalty, stamina, and elegance.

Anmol – The Rs 23-Crore Buffalo from Rajasthan

While Shahbaz has been winning hearts, it is Anmol, a buffalo from Rajasthan, that has stunned everyone with its jaw-dropping price tag of Rs 23 crore. According to its owner, Anmol is raised with utmost care and treated “like royalty.”

The owner said, “Anmol is given special food every day that includes milk, desi ghee, and dry fruits. He is not just a buffalo, but part of the family.”

Anmol’s superior health and record milk production make him one of the most valuable livestock animals in India. His presence at the Pushkar Fair has become a major talking point among visitors, drawing crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the buffalo that costs more than some luxury cars.

Rana – The Rs 25-Lakh Buffalo from Ujjain

Another animal creating a buzz this year is Rana, a buffalo from Ujjain priced at Rs 25 lakh. Standing 8 feet long and 5.5 feet tall, and weighing nearly 600 kg, Rana is a sight to behold.

His owner shared details of the buffalo’s daily care routine, saying, “Rana’s diet costs about Rs 1,500 per day. It includes gram flour, eggs, milk, ghee, oil, and liver tonic. He is three and a half years old and very strong.”

Rana may not be as expensive as Shahbaz or Anmol, but his impressive physique and glossy coat have made him a local favourite at the fair.

Pushkar Fair – A Celebration of Tradition and Livestock Excellence

The Pushkar Fair, which began on October 23 and will continue until November 7, is one of the largest cattle fairs in India. This year, over 3,000 animals have been registered so far, including camels, horses, cows, and buffaloes. The event not only attracts traders but also tourists who come to experience Rajasthan’s vibrant rural culture.

The fair hosts a variety of competitions such as Best Milk Producer, Best Horse Breed, and Best-Dressed Camel. There’s also a dedicated section for Gir cows, known for producing high-quality A2 milk. The traditional Nagaur Bull Competition remains one of the highlights, drawing huge crowds every year.

Health Checks and Digital Records for Livestock

To ensure the safety and health of all animals at the fair, the Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Department has implemented strict monitoring measures. Dr. Sunil Ghiya, the department’s joint director, told NDTV that checkpoints have been set up along routes used by traders.

He said, “All livestock entering the fair will be registered, checked by veterinary doctors, and tagged. With so many animals gathered in one place, we must take precautions to prevent communicable diseases.”

Dr. Ghiya added that the department is working to digitise animal records, especially for camels, cows, buffaloes, and horses. Veterinary teams and officials are available round the clock at the fairgrounds to provide care and assistance.
