A shocking incident has rocked Odisha’s political circles as BJP leader, senior advocate, and RTI activist Pitavas Panda was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his residence in Berhampur on the night of October 6. According to Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M, the murder took place around 10 pm, and multiple police teams have been formed to investigate the case.
RTI Activist Known for Exposing Corruption

Pitavas Panda, aged 50, was a prominent figure in Odisha’s political and legal community. A senior advocate and an RTI activist, Panda was widely recognized for using the Right to Information (RTI) Act to uncover corruption and irregularities in government offices. His activism and outspoken stance against corruption earned him both respect and criticism over the years, reports The Times of India.

Shot Outside His Residence by Motorcycle-Borne Assailants
As per reports, two men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on Panda near his home in Berhampur’s Gosani Nuagaon area late Monday night. Locals rushed him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police officials soon reached the scene and cordoned off the area. The authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby streets to identify the shooters and trace their escape route.
Political Leaders Condemn the Murder , BJP Leader
The brutal killing has triggered an outpouring of grief and anger among BJP leaders and supporters in the region. State Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, along with several senior party members, visited the hospital soon after learning about the attack.
Jena condemned the incident, calling Panda “a well-known and courageous leader who regularly raised his voice against corruption.” He further assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the murder, as quoted by India Today.

Police Investigation Underway, BJP Leader
The Berhampur Police have registered a case and launched a full-scale investigation. SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M stated that special teams have been deployed to track down the culprits, and technical evidence such as CCTV footage and ballistic reports are being analyzed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was pre-planned, but officials have not ruled out any angle, including political or personal enmity.
