In a tragic incident on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, six people were killed and two others seriously injured when a mini-van collided with a truck in the early hours of Saturday. Police said the crash occurred near milestone 140 around 3 a.m., likely due to the driver dozing off at the wheel.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar, the Agra-bound mini-van crashed into a stationary or slow-moving heavy vehicle with such force that the front of the vehicle was completely mangled. The impact was so severe that police had to use cutters to extricate the bodies from the wreckage.

“Six people died on the spot in Mathura , while two others were rushed to a hospital in critical condition,

Among the deceased were Dharamveer, a resident of Harlalpur village in Bah tehsil of Agra, and his two sons, Rohit and Aryan. Also killed were Dharamveer’s nephews, Dalveer alias Phule and Parth Singh, both from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, and their friend Dushyant from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Dharamveer’s wife, Soni, and daughter, Payal, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Agra. Authorities have informed the family members of the deceased, and further legal and procedural action is underway.

The family was returning home to Agra, where Dharamveer, a sweet maker by profession, had planned to organise a religious event—Ramayan Paath—starting Saturday. The journey turned fatal when fatigue or drowsiness behind the wheel likely led to the high-speed collision.

All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and police continue to investigate the precise cause of the accident in Mathura

Separate Accident Involving Private Bus Injures Dozens in Mathura

In a separate incident just an hour later, another major accident occurred on the same expressway. Around 4 a.m., a private bus carrying more than 60 passengers overturned near milestone 131, approximately nine kilometers from the mini-van accident site.

The bus was en route from Delhi to Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the vehicle to lose control and overturn.

Emergency services and police teams responded quickly to the scene. Out of the estimated 60 passengers, 29 were transported to the district hospital for medical attention.

Dr. Bhudev Prasad, Rapid Response Team in-charge and associated with the Chief Medical Officer’s office, confirmed that nine of the seriously injured passengers have been referred to SN Medical College in Agra for advanced care. About a dozen others were treated and discharged from the district hospital, while the remaining are still under observation.

Both incidents have once again highlighted the dangers of long-distance night travel, especially on high-speed expressways like the Yamuna Expressway, where driver fatigue is a recurring concern. Authorities are likely to increase patrolling and consider preventive measures to reduce such mishaps.

The Yamuna Expressway Mathura though a key route connecting Delhi to Agra, has witnessed several serious accidents in recent years. Officials have frequently warned drivers to avoid fatigue and follow road safety guidelines strictly.

Police are continuing their investigation into both crashes, and a detailed report is expected soon.
