A tragic case of an alleged accidental death in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar has now taken a shocking turn, with police registering it as a murder after uncovering a sinister conspiracy involving the victim’s wife and cousin. The deceased, 36-year-old Karan Dev, was initially thought to have died due to electrocution. the truth unraveled days later with the emergence of a crucial piece of digital evidence.

On the morning of July 13, Karan Dev was rushed to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area by his wife, Sushmita, who claimed he had accidentally suffered an electric shock at their residence. Karan was declared dead upon arrival. Believing it to be a tragic but natural incident, his family chose not to pursue a post-mortem. due to Karan’s relatively young age and the ambiguous nature of his death, police insisted on an autopsy and sent his body to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Harinagar.

What appeared to be a routine accidental death case quickly transformed into a murder investigation when the victim’s younger brother, Kunal Dev, discovered an incriminating chat between Sushmita and Rahul—Karan’s paternal cousin and her lover. The conversation, recovered from Instagram and recorded on video by Kunal, laid bare the gruesome plot behind Karan’s death. Kunal handed over the evidence to the police on July 16, leading to the arrest of both Sushmita and Rahul.

According to the recovered messages, the duo had conspired to eliminate Karan. On the night of July 12, Sushmita allegedly laced Karan’s food with 15 sleeping pills in an attempt to sedate him. However, when the drugs didn’t work as quickly as planned, she began to panic and reportedly texted Rahul in real time, expressing her fears.

The shocking betrayal has sent ripples through the community and the victim’s family, who are struggling to come to terms with the revelations. What was initially seen as an unfortunate domestic accident is now being probed as a cold-blooded murder carried out by those closest to the victim. Police continue to investigate the case to uncover further details about the conspiracy, including any prior planning or possible involvement of other individuals.

According to the investigation, on the night of July 12, Sushmita mixed 15 sleeping pills into Karan’s food. When he fell unconscious but was still breathing, she messaged Rahul, expressing that she wanted to take a nap. In a bid to stage the scene as an accident, the duo then administered an electric shock to Karan to make it appear as though he had died due to electrocution.

Police arrested Sushmita, who later confessed during interrogation that she, along with Rahul, had planned and executed the murder. She claimed that Karan was abusive, had slapped her just before Karwachauth, and frequently harassed her for money, which caused her emotional and physical suffering.

The chilling confession and digital evidence have painted a grim picture of betrayal and premeditated murder of karan dev. “Based on the initial investigation, a case has been registered under appropriate sections. The process of arrest is underway, and we are also awaiting the detailed post-mortem report,” said Ankit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities probing deeper into the motive and sequence of events that led to the murder.
