GST 2.0
The revised GST 2.0 structure has brought significant relief for car buyers in India. Small petrol cars under 4 metres with engines below 1.2 litres are now taxed at 18% instead of 29%, directly benefiting popular hatchbacks and compact sedans. Similarly, small diesel cars under 4 metres with engines under 1.5 litres have seen rates slashed from 31% to 18%, making models like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV3XO, and Tata Altroz diesel variants more affordable.
In the midsize segment, tax rates have eased from 45% to 40%, while large SUVs and premium cars are now placed under a simplified 40% slab, compared to the earlier 48–50% range. Skoda has already announced revised pricing with reductions of up to ₹3.3 lakh, and Vw is expected to follow suit shortly. Combined with festive offers, the timing makes this season an especially attractive window for customers to bring home a new car.
