Indian Biker on World Tour Seeks Help After Motorcycle Stolen in UK

A dream world tour turned into a nightmare for Yogesh Alekari, a passionate biker from Mumbai, after his motorcycle — the very heart of his journey — was stolen in the United Kingdom. The 41-year-old adventurer had been on an ambitious solo ride around the globe, covering thousands of kilometers, before the theft in Nottingham left him stranded without his bike, documents, and essential gear.

A Journey of Adventure and Determination

Mr. Alekari’s journey began on May 1, 2025, when he set out from Mumbai aboard his trusted KTM motorcycle. His plan was bold: to traverse continents on two wheels, experiencing the world’s landscapes and cultures firsthand.

Over the next 118 days, he rode through 17 countries and covered more than 24,000 kilometers, tackling everything from scenic highways to rugged terrains. His ride represented more than just travel; it symbolized determination, the thrill of adventure, and the growing trend of Indian bikers undertaking globe-spanning expeditions.

Africa was supposed to be his next chapter. However, fate had other plans when his motorcycle — loaded with everything he needed to continue — was snatched away in broad daylight.

The Theft in Nottingham

On August 31, 2025, while visiting a friend in Nottingham, Mr. Alekari decided to have breakfast at Wollaton Park, a popular local spot. He parked his KTM nearby, fully loaded with all his travel essentials — including his passport, money, documents, and electronic gear.

What happened next has shocked both his followers and the biking community. CCTV footage captured a group of four individuals approaching the motorcycle. Using a hammer, they broke the lock, damaged the handle, and rode away with the vehicle.

The theft happened so swiftly that by the time anyone realized, it was too late. The footage later circulated widely on social media, with Mr. Alekari himself posting it in hopes of identifying the culprits and rallying support for the recovery of his bike.

A Stranded Traveler in Need of Support

For any traveler, losing a vehicle is devastating. But for a world tourer like Mr. Alekari, the theft is crippling. His motorcycle was not only his means of transportation but also his home on wheels, carrying everything required for survival on the road.

The loss of his passport and documents has created an even more pressing problem. Without them, he cannot continue his journey or even return home to India. Immigration hurdles and the lengthy process of replacing official papers now loom large.

Speaking on social media, Mr. Alekari appealed to his followers:

my bike, passport, and gear have all been stolen . please help spread the word so authorities can act. i just want to recover my documents and find a way to move forward.

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities in Nottingham have confirmed that they are investigating the theft. However, as of now, no arrests have been made. Police are examining the CCTV footage and following leads, though recovering stolen vehicles in such cases is often challenging.

In the meantime, Mr. Alekari remains in limbo, relying on the kindness of friends and fellow bikers while waiting for progress in the case.

News of the theft quickly spread among Indian motorcycling communities, especially on forums like Team-BHP, where bikers expressed solidarity and offered suggestions. Many encouraged him to immediately contact the Indian High Commission in London for emergency travel document replacements.

Some shared advice based on similar experiences, reminding him that theft of high-end motorcycles during long tours is not uncommon, particularly in European cities.

Not an Isolated Case

This incident isn’t the first of its kind. Just a few months earlier, Itchy Boots, a well-known YouTuber and adventure biker, also had her motorcycle stolen in Swansea, Wales. Her story drew widespread attention and highlighted the vulnerability of solo travelers to theft in foreign countries.

Mr. Alekari’s case has reignited the conversation, sparking concern over the safety of motorcyclists touring abroad. The irony isn’t lost on many supporters: a journey meant to celebrate freedom and adventure has instead ended in frustration and helplessness.

A Plea for Resolution

While he waits for updates from police, Mr. Alekari continues to share his story online. His immediate priority remains the recovery of his passport and essential documents, without which his options remain severely limited. Whether he resumes his world tour or returns to Mumbai, those items are crucial for his next step.

For now, his followers and fellow bikers around the world are amplifying his appeal, hoping the viral circulation of the CCTV footage leads to leads or action from authorities.

A Lesson for Travelers

The theft serves as a cautionary tale for bikers and travelers alike. Experts advise those on long-haul trips to:

  • Avoid leaving bikes unattended in public places for long.
  • Use multiple layers of security, such as heavy-duty locks and alarms.
  • Carry critical documents separately rather than leaving them on the motorcycle.
  • Register with local embassies while traveling abroad for emergencies.

What began as a daring journey of discovery has now turned into a desperate fight for recovery. For Yogesh Alekari, the road ahead remains uncertain — but the outpouring of support from India’s biking community and beyond has shown that he is not alone.

His story reflects both the joy and risks of adventure travel. As he awaits help, thousands are hoping that he can soon reclaim his lost bike, recover his documents, and continue chasing his dream of riding across the world.
