In a deeply tragic and heart-wrenching incident from Nagpur Man Straps Wife’s Body to Bike, a 35-year-old man was forced to tie his wife’s lifeless body to his motorcycle after she was killed by a speeding truck and his desperate pleas for help went unanswered by passersby.
The disturbing visuals, captured in a video that quickly went viral on social media, show the man, identified as Amit Yadav, riding along the Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway with his deceased wife, Gyarsi, strapped to the back of his two-wheeler. The incident has sparked shock, outrage, and conversations about apathy among motorists and the lack of emergency response in such situations.
The Accident
The tragedy unfolded on the morning of August 9, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. Amit and his wife, residents of Nagpur’s Lonara area, were travelling to their native village, Karanpur, in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district.
Their journey took a devastating turn near Morphata, when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. The impact caused Gyarsi to fall onto the road. Horrifyingly, the truck did not stop; instead, it ran over her and sped away, leaving her grievously injured. Officials confirmed that she died instantly from the injuries.

Shaken and in shock, Amit Yadav reportedly tried to seek assistance from motorists passing along the busy national highway. Witnesses later told police that he waved frantically at vehicles, pleading for help to transport his wife’s body. However, not a single driver stopped.
Faced with this indifference, and unwilling to leave his wife’s body on the road, Amit made a desperate decision—he tied her body to the back of his bike with a cloth in order to take her to their village. His heartbreaking act was captured on camera, reportedly by a police officer who was trailing behind.
Police Intervention
Shortly after the video was recorded, a police van caught up with Amit and stopped him on the highway. Officers persuaded him to hand over the body so it could be transported for official procedures.
Gyarsi’s body was then taken to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital in Nagpur for a post-mortem examination. Police registered a case of accidental death and have launched an investigation into the truck driver, who fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Authorities are now working to identify and locate the truck involved in the fatal collision. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and police say that the driver will face legal action once found.
Officials have also stated that further steps in the case will depend on the findings of the autopsy report, which will provide clarity on the exact cause and timing of Gyarsi’s death.
About the Victims (Nagpur Man)
Amit Yadav and his wife Gyarsi were living in Lonara, a locality on the outskirts of Nagpur. However, they originally hailed from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. Friends and relatives have described them as a hardworking couple who often travelled back to their native village to visit family.
The accident took place during what was supposed to be a day of celebration for Raksha Bandhan—a festival marking the bond between brothers and sisters—making the tragedy all the more poignant.
The video showing Amit with his wife’s body tied to the motorcycle has sparked widespread outrage online. Many social media users have condemned the bystanders and passing motorists for their lack of humanity, asking how people could ignore a man’s desperate cries for help in such a dire situation.

Others have criticised the broader lack of emergency infrastructure and quick-response services on Indian highways, pointing out that this is not an isolated incident. In rural and semi-urban areas, victims of road accidents often rely on the goodwill of strangers for transport to hospitals—a hope that, in this case, tragically failed.
This incident has also reignited discussions about the Good Samaritan Law in India, which was introduced to encourage bystanders to help accident victims without fear of legal repercussions. While the law protects helpers from harassment or legal liability, awareness about it remains low, and fear of police questioning continues to deter people from intervening in accident cases.
Experts say that cases like Amit Yadav’s highlight the urgent need for:
Better public awareness campaigns on the Good Samaritan Law.
More highway patrol units equipped to respond rapidly to accidents.
Ambulance availability along long-distance road routes, especially in remote stretches.

Police Statement
Nagpur police officials have acknowledged the distressing nature of the incident. “It is unfortunate that the victim’s Husband had to resort to such measures. We urge people to show humanity and assist accident victims whenever possible,” one officer said.
They confirmed that a case of accidental death has been registered and that efforts are ongoing to trace the truck driver. The police have also appealed to anyone with information about the vehicle involved to come forward.
Amit’s decision to carry his wife’s body by tying it to the bike was born out of desperation and love, but it also serves as a stark reminder of the gaps in India’s emergency response system. What should have been a day of family celebration turned into a devastating journey for the Yadav family—a journey now etched in the minds of millions who have seen the video.
