Following the government’s recent ban on 25 OTT platforms for allegedly streaming vulgar and obscene content, producer Ektaa Kapoor has issued a formal statement distancing herself and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, from the ALTT app—one of the platforms affected by the ban.
In a clarification shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ektaa Kapoor stated that neither she nor her mother has any current association with ALTT. She emphasized that both stepped down from their involvement with the platform back in June 2021.
“Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities. However, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ektaa Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT,” read the statement. “They had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied, and media is requested to report the accurate facts.”

The statement also noted that ALTT is currently operated by Balaji Telefilms Limited, following an official restructuring. “Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization. Following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) as approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it operates ALTT with effect from June 20, 2025.”
Ektaa Kapoor further reassured the public that Balaji Telefilms continues to follow all legal guidelines and maintains high standards of corporate governance. “Balaji Telefilms Limited is fully compliant with all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance,” the statement concluded.
The government’s decision to block access to 25 OTT platforms, including ALTT, ULLU, and Desiflix, was made in consultation with multiple ministries and experts. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting coordinated with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Women and Child Development, Electronics and IT, and Law. Industry associations such as FICCI and CII, along with specialists in women’s and children’s rights, were also consulted before the decision was finalized.
Officials stated that these platforms were found in violation of provisions under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules of 2021. Notifications have been sent to intermediaries instructing them to block access to the listed websites and apps.
The apps banned include: ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, ShowHit, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks.
