In a shocking incident from Delhi’s Shahdara district, a 32-year-old woman allegedly killed her father by hitting him with a tawa (a flat pan used for cooking) during a heated domestic altercation. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the family’s residence located in Budh Bazar, Ramnagar area of Shahdara.
According to Delhi Police, the accused has been identified as Anu, the daughter of the deceased, Tek Chand Goyal (55). The altercation reportedly turned violent around 3 p.m. when Anu allegedly attacked her father with a tawa, leading to severe head injuries.
Police sources stated that Tek Chand was immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital by his son Shivam. Despite efforts to save him, the doctors at the hospital declared him “your Father is dead.”
The MS Park Police Station received a distress call from GTB Hospital at 3:56 p.m. informing them that a man, identified as Tek Chand Goyal, had been brought to the emergency room in an unconscious state and was declared dead on arrival. Acting promptly, a police team was dispatched to both the hospital and the family residence to gather preliminary information and initiate the investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam confirmed the development, stating, “Information was received from GTB Hospital regarding a person named Tek Chand Goyal, a resident of Budh Bazar, Ramnagar, Shahdara, who was brought in an unconscious state by his son, Shivam. Family Members Present During the Incident(Woman Kills Father)
Initial police investigations revealed that at the time of the alleged murder, several family members were present inside the house. These included Anu, her mother Bala Devi, and Shivam’s wife, Priya (29).
During the interrogation, Shivam reportedly informed police that an argument had broken out between his father and sister earlier in the day, which escalated to physical violence. He said that Anu lost control and hit their father with a tawa, resulting in fatal injuries.
Officers also confirmed that all individuals present at the scene are being questioned to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading up to the incident. Forensic experts were called in to examine the crime scene and collect evidence, including the blood-stained tawa, which has been seized as a potential murder weapon.
While the motive behind the murder is still under investigation, neighbors and local residents have hinted at frequent domestic disputes within the family. Some residents claim that arguments were a regular occurrence in the household, particularly between Tek her and Chand(Father of anu) .
Sources within the police department say that investigators are also exploring the mental health background of the accused, as well as any history of family disputes or prior police complaints. However, no official confirmation on these angles has been provided so far.
Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder, and Anu has been taken into custody for further questioning. Investigators are also awaiting the postmortem report, which will provide crucial insight into the nature and extent of the injuries sustained by Tek Chand( Father of anu)the victim.
The murder has left the local community in a state of disbelief. Residents of Budh Bazar described the Goyal family as largely reclusive and said they rarely interacted with neighbors. Many were shocked to hear that a family dispute had escalated to such a tragic outcome.
One neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “We would sometimes hear raised voices from their house, but we never imagined it would come to something like this. It’s horrifying.”
Next Steps in Investigation
Police are now conducting a thorough probe to determine whether the incident was an act of sudden rage or if it was premeditated. Investigators are also checking for any past records of complaints or violence involving Anu or other family members.
DCP Prashant Priya Gautam added, “We are collecting all technical and forensic evidence. The accused is being questioned. Statements from family members and witnesses are being recorded. Further investigation is underway.”
Anu, who was initially detained for questioning, may face formal arrest depending on the findings of the preliminary investigation and the autopsy results. The police are also working to piece together timelines, verify the testimonies of those present at the scene, and examine CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish additional context.
This incident has once again raised concerns about rising domestic violence cases and mental health issues within families. While the motive and full story are yet to be uncovered, the brutal nature of the crime has left both authorities and the public alarmed. The Shahdara police continue to investigate the case and are expected to release more information in the coming days as the inquiry progresses.
